I tried opening the window sideways, and it works perfectly. Much more air can circulate this way. You have to place the smarwa device near to the edge.
If you change the handle to the upper position, you should re-calibrate it, in order to have the correct opening distance.
In my case the window even closes tighter when opening sideways. Nearly no wind/air comes in when closed. This this may differ with other window models.
For this scenario a longer ridge would be an advantage, but I have not found it in the shop.
